What is Constellation Work?Systemic Constellation work is a dynamic approach to healing developed in Europe by Bert Hellinger, his associates, and students and is rapidly being accepted in the US as an essential tool for growth and change. This powerful, innovative process can be used to untangle the many levels of subtle, hidden webs that operate within systems (individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.) Constellation work is especially useful in helping to resolve difficult and intractable problems not accessible by other means. Constellation Work addresses a variety of issues including:
Systemic Family Constellations Out of love, we unconsciously "reproduce" the life of one of our forgotten or suffering family members. We do not fully live our own lives, but in part, someone else's. When we experience one or more of the symptoms above then chances are we are entangled in our family system. Process for Disentangling To create a constellation, we choose and place representatives for our family members. Just seeing the system constructed on the outside as we hold it inside, is the beginning of shifting the perspective and energy field of the system. We literally see hidden dynamics and enmeshments that we are unconsciously living. From this place, movements are generated that bring ease to the system's members. Words are spoken that reverberate and loosen the tangles in the system. We strengthen the healthy ties. We find the direction the soul is called. We become more able to enter strongly into our own lives and hold our rightful places in our current families, our families of origin, our work, and in our communities. We grow free of burdens not our own and can take the right next steps into our personal future. How it looks. (by Bertold Ulsamer) The work can take place in a group or individually with a trained facilitator. The client must have a certain clear request to be addressed in the constellation (e.g., he/she wants to know the reasons for his/her depression or feelings of guilt). First s/he names the essential facts about the family regarding the past two to three generations. Then s/he chooses group members to be representatives of parents, siblings, her/himself, and for other pertinent members of the family. Representatives are chosen for deceased family members as well. The client spontaneously, but with concentration, situates the representatives on an open floor. S/he gives them a place and a direction to face, and in this way sets them up relative to each other. After that, the client becomes an observer. _The therapist/facilitator asks the representatives about their feelings and perceptions. After that, s/he often proposes either statements for the representatives to repeat, or new places for them to take. The representatives have a fine sense of whether or not the statement is accurate, and of whether or not their feelings have changed when they take a new place. Often, representatives of other family members are added to the group (as uncles, grandparents, etc.), and the effect is observed. _A constellation generally lasts between 15 minutes and one hour, though they sometimes last shorter or longer. Systemic Constellation Work offers the opportunity for systems to self regulate in the direction of balance and alignment with the truth of what is. Sometimes called soul work, this approach takes participants into a timeless dimension where the deepest levels of healing are possible. Organizational Constellations The basic principles of harmonizing and clarifying used in Family Constellation Work can also be applied to groups and organizations. These methods have been applied in a variety of businesses, sports teams, non-profits, churches, schools, and other organizations for over 20 years in Europe. This method is now internationally recognized as an effective and direct way to heal, harmonize, balance and transform people and organizations. In the fast paced world of business today nothing is more important than smooth running communication. Increasing complexity in even the smallest businesses makes it likely that unconscious factors will have a huge impact. Structural problems, conflicts at any level, cultural shifts, human resource policies, management issues, and information flow are just of few of the issues that can be profitably addressed using organizational constellations. |
